Headman defiles grand daughter
Chasefu, November 5, ZANIS — Police in Chasefu district in Eastern province have arrested a 75 year old village headman for allegedly defiling his six year old granddaughter.
Eastern Province Deputy Police Commissioner Geoffrey Kunda confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Chasefu today and identified the suspect as Edwin Phiri of Kadulandewo village in Senior Chief Magodi’s area.
Mr. Kunda disclosed that the incident happened on October 14th 2019 where headman Kadulandewo is alleged to have dragged the minor of the same village into his house and defiled her.
He said the parents to the girl suspect that the headman has on several occasions had carnal knowledge of their 6 year old without the victim reporting him as she was most of the time found at his house.
And a medical report signed by Chasefu District Health Director, Dr. Muyinda Musamba at Kanyanga health facility showed that the minor had some bruises on her private parts and that her hymen; a membrane covering the virginal was not intact indicating that she had sexual intercourse.
However, the deputy regional police chief said the suspect is currently detained in police custody and will appear in court soon charged with incest, contrary to the laws of Zambia.
