The Nakonde Majistrate court has jailed former Nakonde District Council Secretary 7 year’s imprisonment with hard Labour for corrupt practices involving more than K69, 000.

Appearing for judgement before Magistrate Joshua Sikazwe today, was Francis Makesa  who was jailed after being found guilty of 2 counts of failure to comply with applicable procedure or guidelines of procurement contrary to section 34 (2) (b) of the anti-corruption Act number 3 of 2012.

Particulars of the offence in count one were that on dates unknown but between January 1st, 2013 Mr Makesa being a public officer namely council Secretary and an employee of Nakonde District Council jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown did willfully failed to comply with applicable procedures or guidelines relating to procurement.

And in count two Mr. Makesa was jointly charged with former Nakonde Council treasurer Joseph Chipasha Nonde, where they failed to comply with applicable procedures or guidelines relating to procurement in which Limusote inn was single sourced to supply office equipment for Nakonde District Council at a total cost of more than 69.
