He noted that this is a very high profile competition and the Federation wants to ensure that our national team players are well equipped before they clash with the world’s best players.
“We want to be represented very well at the tournament,” Mr. Chilufya said.
The CFZ President said his executive has engaged a Ukrainian Grand Master (GM), Titov Varyakov to drill the national chess team online.
He said GM Varyakov will have a physical meeting with the national team a week before the chess Olympiads at a location outside Zambia.
Mr. Chilufya disclosed that his executive has organised a friendly game between Zambia and Namibia to be played before this month end in order to keep the players active after the 2018 Zambia Open Chess Championship held.
Meanwhile, Mr. Chilufya has commended the World Chess Federation (FIDE), acting president Georgios Makropoulos for awarding him a certificate in recognition of his strides to develop chess as a sport in Zambia.
