Minister of Youth Sport and Child Development Moses Mawere says adequate training for football coaches is cardinal in growing the game in the country.
Speaking as guest of honour today at the official opening of the Licence D coaching course organised by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) at Hillside Resource Centre in Chipata today, Mawere said during the FAZ will help equip local coaches and develop grassroots football.
ZANIS sports reports that Mawere furthermore said the training course was very important because it was going to open up the knowledge of the coaches who would there after produce good players to feed into various national teams.
“With good players in national teams we shall have good results.Good results will make everybody happy and as Government we shall be proud to be associated with success, “he added.
Mawere said football as a sport brings people together from all walks of life in the country adding that football is like a religion in Zambia due to its large fan base.
He said it was for this reason that President Edgar Lungu led Government has continued funding football.
“Football brings joy to everybody when the national team is playing. People from every corners of the Country get glued to radio and television just to follow the games, “he said.
Mawere said the corporate world should also come on board to start sponsoring football if positive results were to come.
He said Eastern Province has produced great talent that was making the nation proud.
“We talk of Fashion Sakala, Justin Shonga,just to mention a few. All these superstars today passed through your hands your people who are seated here today, “Mawere said.
He urged the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to work hard in the promotion of football in the Country by going round to identify the players in all areas.
