Apostolic Nuncio for Zambia and Malawi Archbishop Gianfranco Gallo has urged Catholic Bishops to show compassion to the marginalized in society.
Archbishop Gallo says Bishops are first missionaries of Christ hence the need for them to proclaim and evangelize the true gospel of Christ to the downtrodden.
ZANIS reports that Archbishop Gallo was speaking during the first open mass of the Sub-Regional Consultative meeting of Bishops of Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe held at the Cathedral of Child Jesus.
He stressed that Bishops have the duty to bring salvation and freedom to those oppressed by the power of darkness.
Archbishop Gallo encouraged the clergy to raise their voices where the rights and dignity of people are not being respected.
However, Archbishop Gallo admitted that pastoral work is not easy as it requires dedication and sacrifice.
And delivering a pastoral letter from the Holy Father, Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature, Joseph Maram Reddy said the collaboration of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi will enhance Catholic evangelism in the sub region.
He called for the fruitful outcome of the Sub-Regional Consultative meeting of catholic Bishops of Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
