Chieftainess Msoro of the Kunda people of Mambwe district in Eastern Province is concerned that investors may be discouraged to invest in her Chiefdom due to the poor state of roads in the area.
Chieftainess Msoro says investors may not be willing to put their monies where the cost of production may be higher due to factors such as accessibility and appealed to Government to rehabilitate the road that links the chiefdom to the Central Business District (CBD).
The traditional leader said this yesterday when Eastern Province Permanent Secretary (PS), Buleti Nsemukila paid a courtesy call on her at her palace.
She observed that the road which has two water crossings becomes inaccessible saying the chiefdom is cut off from the CBD in the rainy season.
Chieftainess Msoro stated that the poor state of the road is leading to increased transportation costs of agriculture products.
And Dr Nsemukila has unscored the need to address the poor state of the road infrastructure if investment potential in the agriculture sector of Mambwe district is to be fully realized.
Dr Nsemukila noted that the area holds prospects due to arable land saying the poor state of the road has made it difficult for business in the area saying Government has secured five bridges for Mambwe district.
He stated that the bridges will soon be brought to the district and that they will be placed at the water crossings to improve transportation in the area.
Dr Nsemukila however, observed that Chief Msoro’s area is one and of the most productive areas in Eastern Province which could be a bread basket with good road infrastructure.
