National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Godfridah Sumaili has challenged the church to meet the physical needs of the people as it spreads the word of Good.
Speaking when he opened the United Methodist Church National Conference in Kitwe today, Reverend Sumaili said the church is the salt and light of the word hence it should lead by example in good conduct, promoting patriotism, peace, and unity in the country.
She however commended the Methodist church efforts in fulfilling its social responsibilities such as taking care of the orphans, physically challenged, providing health and education services and helping government in providing social development among others.
She further commended the church for its motto which includes making disciples, promoting love and spiritual transformation which she said resonates with government’s resolve to promote love, unity and spiritual transformation among its people.
Reverend Sumaili further assured the church that government will continue supporting the church in its operations as it values the counsel it receives from the church.
And speaking earlier United Methodist Church Bishop for Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Zambia professor Kasap Owan Alex said the Methodist Church has resolved that it will not support same sex marriages.
Bishop Kasap Owan commended President Edgar Edgar Lungu for promoting peace in the country.
And Bishop Kasap Owan announced that the church will next year open a university at Kafwankumba area in Luanshya to promote education in its efforts to improve the local people’s livelihoods.
He further thanked Reverend Sumaili for attending the conference.
The conference was attended by representatives from various districts in Lusaka, Copperbelt and North Western province as we’ll as missionaries from the United States of America among others.
