Chavuma District Commissioner (DC) Benjamin Mufunga says some schools that were closed in the district for failing to meet the minimum public health standards  will open on Monday 5th February, 2018.

Mr. Mufunga said the schools that were closed by a combined team of inspectors from Ministry of Health and the local authority include Moses Luneta Primary, Sewe Primary, Chikongolo community and Kakoma East community schools.

He said management at the affected schools are working tirelessly to ensure that the schools meet the set sanitation standards.

Mr.  Mufunga told ZANIS in an interview yesterday that most of the affected schools have heeded to recommendations made by the health inspectors and improved their sanitary facilities.

He however, urged school managers to ensure learning institutions in the district are kept in good condition at all times for the safety and well-being of learners and staff.

Last month, health inspectors closed four schools that were declared unfit for human habitation according to the Public Health Act part 12, section 81 of the Laws of Zambia
