Kawambwa Sugar Limited has commenced the construction of workers’ houses, offices and an office block in the Luena farm block in Kawambwa district.
Kawambwa Sugar Limited operating under Nava Bharat Ventures is investing USD300 Million in the development of a 10,000 hectares sugar plantation and ethanol processing plant in Chief Chama’s Chiefdom.
Company Senior Manager For Administration Anne Chimota told ZANIS in Mansa that the company has already started erecting 10 prefabricated housing units for its workers, an office block and a canteen.
Mrs. Chimota says that the construction project of all the structures at the site is expected to be completed within 30 days.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Chimota has disclosed that the company has completed the construction of 22 kilometres of roads within the farm.
She noted that the construction of the roads will speed up the implementation of the project as movement of equipment and other materials will be eased.
She has however appealed to government to expedite the process of connecting the farm to the national electricity grid.
