A civic leader in Nalolo District in Western province has urged government to help renovate a one by three classroom block and an office block at Namabunga Primary School that was blown by strong winds on 13th October, 2019.
Mr Chilanda Kapalu, who is Silowana Ward Councilor, says government and other stakeholders need to come on board and help repair the damaged classroom block.
“The classroom block is the only permanent structure at the school , hence lessons have been disrupted as pupils are now forced to use a temporal structure for lessons,” he said.
He disclosed that the affected pupils were now using a temporal building which he said cannot accommodate all the grades, from one to seven.
Mr Kapalu later on donated K800.00 cash towards the renovation works.
Namabunga Head Teacher Prisca Ngombo, who is also confirmed the incident, added that it is difficult for pupils to concentrate with lessons as they are squeezed in one temporal classroom especially when it is raining.
And in a related development, Namabunga Head Teacher Prisca Ngombo has disclosed that thieves also broke into a temporal office that she is currently using and went away with a laptop used for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) lessons and other school items.
Ms. Ngombo has since appealed to residents of Nalolo and Sioma Districts to report anyone selling a second hand laptop to the nearest police station as the matter was reported and is currently under investigations.
Meanwhile, Namabunga Primary School Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Chairperson Walubita Mulumemui thanked the Councilor for the gesture.
Appealing for further assistance from well-wishers, Mr Mulumemui said the gesture will assist with the purchase of iron sheets for the affected structures and has still appealed for more help.
