The delivery of farming inputs for the 2019/2020 farming season in Mpongwe district is well on progress.
District agriculture coordinator Hosia Chibalamuna says that the district has so far received 769.95 metric tons of D compound fertilizer and 827.95 metric tons of urea fertilizer.
ZANIS reports, Mr Chibalamuna disclosed in an interview that the delivery of D compound and Urea fertilizer translates into 21 and 28.2 percent respectively of the total expected delivery.
“We are on top of things as Mpongwe, we are ahead of other districts especially in terms of deposits and we hope that by this week we start dispatching inputs to farmers, ” he said.
Mr Chibalamuna further disclosed that a total of K2, 835,600 had so far been deposited by beneficiaries under the FISP project for the 2019/2020 farming season.
He further noted that the district is in a fortnight’s time expected to receive seed for Maize, soya beans groundnuts and sorghum.
Mr Chibalamuna however noted that his office was facing challenges in terms of storage space for the inputs.
He stated that his office will hence engage the district administration to devise means of ensuring that storage space is acquired for incoming inputs.
Mr Chibalamuna further appealed to power utility ZESCO to devise a flexible load management schedule for the district in order to allow his office devise Authorities to Deposit(ATD’s) and Authorities to collect(ATC’s) for farmers which can only be done using the Zambia Integrated Agricultural Management Information System.
