Mufumbwe District Farmers Union Vice Chairperson, Abel Kakewu has appealed to the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services to secure a vehicle for the department of community development to have impact on the lives of the local people.
Mr Kakewu revealed to ZANIS today that the department of community development has good poverty elimination programmes yet the department work is usually limited due to lack of transportation.
He said officers have time and again made efforts to roll out programmes such as the Food Security Pack (FSP) and Village Banking to all parts of the district but they usually fail to effectively monitor the performance and impact of such programmes due to transport constraints.
Mr Kakewu said this challenge has made beneficiaries in the district, especially those in the outskirts, to regard the department of community development as one of the worst underperforming departments in the district.
Meanwhile, Mr Kakewu has commended the team of officials from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services head office for their recent visit to Mufumbwe to interact with members of the community in the district on the effectiveness of the services the ministry offers to the local people.
He said the visit will help the team gain deeper insight on how the programmes under the ministry are being implemented and the challenges being experienced.
Earlier this week, a team of officials from Lusaka was in Mufumbwe to interact with community members on the services and programmes the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services offers.
