Police in Samfya District have arrested a family of three for alleged murder.

Luapula Province Police Commission Elias Chushi has named the three as John Kaluba 76, his wife Priscilla Kangwa 31, and his son Brian Kaluba all of Nshindano Village in Chief Kasoma Bangweulu’s Chiefdom.

The three are alleged to have caused the death of Leonard Kunda whom they jointly beat leading to his death.

The Luapula Province Police Commissioner says the three beat the deceased after he was trying to attack Kunda at their residence.

Mr. Chushi says it is alleged that the deceased whilst wrestling with the three, axed John Kaluba who sustained a deep cut on the forehead.

He says the incident happened on Saturday August 10th, around 23:00 hours and around 04:20 the deceased died as a result of the head injuries he sustained.

Mr. Chushi says the body of the deceased has been deposited to Mansa General Hospital awaiting post-mortem to ascertain the cause of the death.

In another accident one person has died, while another one is nursing serious injuries in Mansa General Hospital after the wall to the quarry pit they were digging from fell on them at a Mine in Mwansabombwe.

Bitwell Bwalya of Kaputula Village died after he broke his neck while Jackson Mwaba 40 of Katamala Village broke his leg and sustained a backache.

Disclosing the matter to ZANIS in Mansa, Luapula Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi said the incident happened yesterday around 15:40 hours.

Mr. Chushi says this came to light when a concerned member of the public reported to Police of the accident.

He says facts before the Police are that Bwalya and Mwaba were digging quarry with a pick and shovel when they met their fate.

Mr. Chushi says the body of the deceased was taken to Mbereshi Mission Hospital while Mwaba was rushed to Mansa General Hospital.

He says the name and owners of the Mine they were digging had not yet been established by the time Police visited the scene of the accident.
