Government has called on farmers in Mambwe district to take part in growing Cashew Nut trees.
Mambwe District Agriculture Coordinator Kennedy Kaputo said the Cashew industry has great potential to create more employment opportunities in the district and the province as a whole.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Kaputo said this at the first Cashew Growers District Meeting held at the Farmer Training Centre (FTC), by the Eastern Province Cashew Nut Growers Association.
He said Cashew nuts are a cash crop commodity that can help alleviate poverty levels and enhance economic development.
Mr. Kaputo pointed out that government has given a go ahead to small scale farmers to register and participate in the cashew nut industry.
He said they should not let such an opportunity pass them as they have government’s full support and it will benefit them.
And Mr. Kaputo urged Officers in various farming blocks to ensure that they work hard and recruit the targeted 650 farmers needed in the district.
