Unknown people have stolen already written examination answer sheets for 42 grade nine candidates at a school in Mambwe district of Eastern Province.
Both Eastern Province Police Commissioner Lackson Sakala and the Provincial Education Officer (PEO) Allan Lingambe have confirmed that unknown people drilled the wall of the strong room stealing all examination answer sheets at Ncheka Primary school.
Mr Sakala says four pupils and a watchman been detained to help with investigations.
He disclosed that all examination scripts that were written last Friday were stolen from the school during the incident which occurred between November 23rd and 25th, 2018.
Mr Sakala said police suspect an inside job but stated that investigations are ongoing.
And Dr. Lingambe who yesterday visited the school says both the head teacher and his deputy have been charged for negligence as both were not in school for a week during the examination period.
He said the matter is currently under investigations saying the reason for the theft have not been established.
The PEO said it is sad that 42 candidates have been affected due to the theft.
Dr Lingambe disclosed that the Ministry of Education will await the conclusion of police investigations before a decision is made on how the matter will be handled.
