Three Village Headmen in Chief Naluama’s area in Chikankata district in Southern Province are appealing to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to assist the people in the area with relief food.
This follows the dry spell that hit the area during the 2017/2018 farming season.
Speaking in separate interviews with ZANIS in Chikankata district, Village Headmen Nkombo, Moonga and Kashimbi disclosed that if nothing is done to alleviate the hunger situation, people will die from starvation in their chiefdoms.
The Headmen have further appealed to the DMMU to go and ascertain the extent of the damage on their crops.
Meanwhile, Headman Moonga said his subjects are surviving on wild fruits.
