Southern Province Permanent Secretary (PS) Mwangala Liomba says the provincial administration is looking for serious investors to invest in the gemstone industry.
Mr Liomba disclosed that the province is endowed with abundant and the best gemstones in the world.
He however lamented at the failure by locals who have not derived maximum benefits from the minerals despite the province being rich in gemstones.
The PS disclosed that locals involved in mining have no modern equipment thereby depriving them from adding value to the gemstones.
Mr Liomba said the provincial administration is keen in finding serious investors with the capacity to add value to the minerals.
He pointed out that the mining sector in the province has the potential to create jobs for the local people if well exploited.
The PS said this in an exclusive interview with ZANIS at the sidelines of the ongoing Agriculture and Commercial show.
Mr Liomba appealed to would be investors to take advantage of the fourth coming Southern province investment and tourism expo slated for 14th to 21st September 2019.
