Government has released K200, 000 for the maintenance of Mbesha Bridge in Kasama district.
Kasama District Commissioner Kelly Kashiwa has revealed the development to ZANIS in Kasama after he inspected the bridge.
Mr Kashiwa observed that the bridge has become a danger to members of the community as it has outlived its lifespan.
He added that the bridge is on the verge of collapsing, hence the quick action by government to prevent any loss of lives on the Lukulu River.
Mr Kashiwa said a team of engineers from the Road Development Agency (RDA) will next week move on site to start the maintenance works.
The District Commissioner has also disclosed that government has started the procurement of materials for the construction of Luombe Bridge in Lukulu Ward.
He explained that the bridge, is expected to be constructed after the rainy season.
And Headman Mbesha has thanked government for the quick action to carry out maintenance works on the bridge, adding that it is the only link between his village and Chilubula Mission Hospital as well as the surrounding schools.
He noted that once complete, the bridge will ease access to the health and education facilities as well as the transportation of farming products.
