Veteran Freedom Fighter Chibesa Kankasa has described the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela as a potent symbol of South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle.
Ms. Kankasa said Mrs. Mandela was banished and jailed for campaigning for the rights of black South Africans and for her husband’s release from prison.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS today, Ms. Kankasa disclosed that Winnie Mandela was a strong Woman and a fighter who contributed to South Africa’s independence.
She further added that Mrs. Mandela who died at the age of 81, in the early hours of Monday lived a life of Humility.
Ms. Kankasa said Mrs. Mandela who struggled for her country and for her husband’s freedom never relented till her husband was released.
She disclosed that the late Winnie Mandela contributed significantly to South Africa’s history.
Ms. Kankasa has further urged women to emulate the courage and enthusiasm that Mrs. Mandela had added that, the way she contributed to the fight for independence, women should fight the problems that they are faced with.
Mama Kankasa said Winnie Madikizela Mandela will be remembered for her fight against the inhumane anti-apartheid system.
