The Kansanshi Mine PLC has donated assorted goods worth over K17, 000 to Solwezi correctional centre and Solwezi urban clinic.
Kasanshi Mine Public Relations Manager Godfrey Msiska said the mining company was committed to supporting communities in the surrounding areas.
Mr. Msiska said the festive season is a time of giving hence the decision by the mining company to donate to the inmates.
He was speaking during the donation at the correction centre.
Meanwhile, Solwezi District Commissioner Rosemary Kamalonga thanked the mining company for including diapers and baby foods in the donated items.
Ms. Kamalonga said these items will enhance comfort to children born in the prison.
She added that the disinfectants, washing and bathing soaps will greatly help maintain hygiene in the correctional facility.
At Solwezi urban clinic, Ms. Kamalonga appealed to the mining company to help fence the facility to reduce cases of theft.
She said the clinic has lost a water pump at the hands of thieves.
The mining company donated blankets and disinfectants at the maternity ward of the clinic.
