The Kasama Municipal Council has registered more than 320 dogs during the recently held dog registration exercise.
In a statement made available to ZANIS in Kasama today, Council Public Relations Manager Nancy Chenga said the exercise which began on 28th April, 2018 and ended on Monday 7TH May, 2018 recorded a good response from dog owners in the district.
Ms. Chenga named the centers where the exercise was conducted as Newtown, Chikumanino, Tazara and Namulundu.
She said other areas were Musenga, Nkole urban and Malama School.
Ms. Chenga added that out of the 500 dogs which were expected to be registered, 320 were captured, representing a 64 percent coverage.
She has since warned members of the public that the dog elimination exercise would soon commence in Kasama, adding that all those that missed the opportunity to register their dogs must do so.
Ms. Chenga has since commended all dog owners in the district who complied with the authorities during the exercise.
The local authority recently conducted its 8th mobile dog registration exercise in the district in a bid to encourage the public to have their dogs vaccinated, registered and confined so that they are not killed in accordance with the Control of Dogs Act. Cap 247 of the Laws of Zambia.
