Government has warned erring Agricultural extension officers across the country of stern action for failure to give farmers correct packs of farming inputs ahead of the 2019/ 2020 farming season.

ZANIS reports that the Agriculture minister  Michael Katambo also stressed the  for effective service delivery among extension officers to ensure every eligible farmer gets the correct pack of farming inputs after depositing K400.

Mr. Katambo , who is also Masaiti Member of Parliament said this when he addressed hundreds of residents at Masangano market in Masaiti where he accompanied the Presidential Empowerment Fund Initiative coordinator to hand over egg incubators to women groups in the area.

He  advised the officers to commit themselves to their duties and ensure that all grey areas identified are reported to the relevant authorities on time.

“I strongly warn you block extension officers as Minister of Agriculture that service delivery must be effective. Let the beneficiaries of the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) E-voucher receive their inputs on time and what is due to them,” Mr. Katambo said.

Mr. Katambo said President Lungu and his administration remains committed to ensure that every block extension officer is monitored and ensure that every erring officer is brought to book.

Emphasising that his ministry wants to see to it that farmers start receiving farming inputs first week September 2019,the minister also urged the church to pray hard and seek God’s intervention for enough and timely rain this coming rainy season to enable farmers  to record normal to above normal harvests.

He implored farmers across the country not to give up because of the harsh climatic conditions that hit the country and some parts of the region thereby affecting their yield but continue tilling the land.

He said agriculture will soon be the main stay of the economy adding that government will continue supporting the growth of the sector as it has proved beyond doubts to having the potential to contribute to national growth.
