Milenge District in Luapula Province has received the first consignment of farming inputs for the 2020/2021 farming season.
Milenge District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO) Tom Mwansabamba said 6,359 by 50 kilogram bags of D-Compound fertilizer and 1,200 by 50 kilograms bags of urea have been delivered to the district so far.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Mwansabamba said Milenge has a target of 4,600 beneficiaries under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
And Milenge District Commissioner Kunda Chibilo said government will ensure that the targeted beneficiaries of FISP in the district access the farming inputs in good time.
Mr Chibilo said it is important that the inputs are distributed before the onset of the rain season because Milenge District has poor road network.
“Government is working on upgrading the roads in this district. We want to ensure the inputs reach our farmers while the roads are still passable, before it starts raining,” he stated.
And Melchizedek Mumba, a Farmer said receiving farming inputs in good time will help the farmers plan properly.
Mr Mumba is hopeful that the development will enable him and other farmers to get good yields.
