Controller of internal audit in the Ministry of Finance Chibwe Mulonda has advised government institutions to strictly adhere to President Edgar Lungu’s directive to uphold accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
Mr Mulonda says President Lungu’s directive is clear and must be seriously implemented so as to preserve the integrity of the public service as the engine of national development.
He said government is equally concerned with the increasing number of audit queries published in the auditor general’s report hence working towards achieving a zero-audit query public sector.
Mr Mulonda said internal auditors across the country will continuously strive towards the enhancement of the internal control environment and will continue being part and parcel of the gate-keepers in preserving public resources.
He was speaking in Choma when he addressed Heads of government departments and parastatals.
Meanwhile Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Kennedy Mubanga has commended the internal audit unit for holding sensitization meetings with heads of government departments and parastatals on internal controls.
Mr Mubanga says the move will help civil servants understand the implications of failing to retire or spending away from the budget.
He says Provincial administration will continue supporting the internal audit unit to ensure that southern province records Zero audit queries.
