The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Child Development in North-Western Province has called on organisations that deals in girls and women  issues  to start advocating for more female participation in various sport disciplines.

Acting Provincial Sports Development Officer, Kondwani Munyeka said there is need for more females in the province to participating in sports.

Mr. Munyeka told ZANIS in an interview that such organisations can help government by encouraging females to join various sports disciplines.

He stated that enhancing the participation of more females in sports activities has always been one of the ministry’s policies.

Mr. Munyeka observed that there are many teams for different sports disciplines in the province but only a few of them have female teams in existence.

He added that the female teams that are currently active in the region should be given the same financial assistance that male teams are given by sponsors.

Mr. Munyeka has commended Kansanshi Mines Plc who have an athletics and football team for females. He has called on organisations in the province which have teams in sports to come up with teams for females in order to motivate girls and women to participate in sports.
