Barely 24 hours after seizing a contraband of 30 kilogrammes on a passenger bus in Chavuma District, police in Solwezi District similarly impounded another passenger bus owned by Likili Bus company after finding 30 Kilogramme bags of alluvial gold on board.
Northwestern province Commissioner of Police, Elias Chushi has confirmed the incident that happened around 16:00 hours today at Kapijimpanga police check point on the Solwezi-Chingola road.
Mr Chushi said one suspect identified as Oscar Mulenga aged 57 of house number E259, Wusakile township in Kitwe has been arrested in connection with the same consignment.
“Police in Solwezi have impounded a Zhong tong bus registration number BCA 4077, driven by Titus Bwalya 43 of plot 44 Garnetone in Kitwe after they found 3×10 kg of alluvial gold on the bus”, he said.
This is the second incident to have happened in a space of five hours after another 30kgs of Alluvial gold was intercepted on an LG travelers passenger bus at the same check point around 11 hours , yesterday.
Earlier , police in provincial capital similarly intercepted six bags of Alluvial gold weighing about 30 kilogrammes aboard the LG Travelers passenger bus from Chavuma district in Northwestern province.
Northwestern province Commissioner of Police, Elias Chushi has confirmed the interception took place at the same check point around 11:00 hours.
“Today around 11 hours at Kapijimpanga check point, six bags of alluvial gold weighing approximately 30 kilogrammes were intercepted in an LG travelers bus coming from Chavuma registration number AIB 8822 driven by Luke Kumwenda aged 50 of Chifubu township in Ndola,” he explained.
Mr Chushi said two people identified as Edan Sangwena aged 67 of senior Chief Kanongesha’s chiefdom and Jasper Muyinda 54 of Chief Chibwika’s chiefdom both from Mwinilunga district have been picked up to assist with investigations.
