Nalolo District Cooperative Union has thanked government for installing a solar hammer mill in the district.
District Cooperative Chairperson, Mando Kalimukwa told ZANIS in Nalolo that the challenges people used to face of travelling long distances to access grinding mills will end once the hammer mill is operational.
“We also thank the Zambia Corporative Federation (ZCF) for ensuring that the hammer mill is installed and we are only remaining with a few things to do before the equipment starts operating,” said Mr Kalimukwa.
He further disclosed that the cooperative union will continue to work with government to ensure that development is rolled out even to rural areas.
“We have suffered a lot as we are buying breakfast Mealie Meal at K170 and roller meal at K140 but with the coming of the hammer mill, the prices will reduce,” Mr Kalimukwa added.
And speaking on behalf of the women, Felistus Nawa also thanked government for the installation of the hammer mill, saying women used to abandon other house chores because of the long queues at the hammer mills.
Ms Nawa said the hammer mill will improve the livelihood of women in the area as they were the most affected people.
“We are grateful to the Republican President Edgar Lungu and Vice President Inonge Wina for this development that has been brought closer to us,” she said.
Mr Mando was flanked by his Vice Chairperson, Muletetwi Mutumba and other committee members.
President Edgar Lungu came up with the initiative to import 2,000 solar hammer mills and install them in needy areas countrywide.
This was also a strategy to stabilise and reduce the prices of Mealie Meal in the country
