Solwezi Municipal Council has intensified inspection of business premises around the district to ensure compliance with the public health standards.
Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Esther Chirwa said the local authority has also intensified on garbage collection in public places such as markets and bus stations.
Ms. Chirwa said the local authority is therefore, appealing to members of the public to subscribe for refuse collection with Wana Company as opposed to digging pits in residential and commercial premises.
She told ZANIS in an interview that it is important for residents to practice cleanliness to avoid any outbreaks of diseases and has since urged all business owners to have refuse bins within their premises.
Ms. Chirwa further said according to Statutory Instrument number 12 of 2018 any shop owner found guilty of failing to provide a proper refuse bin is liable to a fine of K249.99.
