Two stray lions have killed four cattle in Nyathanda-Nyambingila ward of Chavuma district in Northwestern province.
The beasts that are believed to have escaped from a game reserve area in Western province attacked the animals belonging to four farmers in Likhoma on Sunday around midnight.
ZANIS reports that Area ward councilor, Tobias Kambeu who confirmed the development in Chavuma today added that lion foot prints have also been spotted in the area where the attack took place.
Over 2,800 people in the area are living in fear and have subsequently abandoned their fields for fear of being caught by the predators.
The civic leader has since appealed to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to help normalize the situation before human life is lost.
Both Chavuma district commissioner, Benjamin Mufunga and district fisheries and livestock coordinator, Dr Brian Chalilunda confirmed receiving reports of the attack but could not avail details yet.
Dr Chalilunda said his office received the reports through camp officers from the affected areas.
