Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Nkandu Luo says there is urgent need for the country to embrace value addition in both meat and fish products.
Professor Luo says time has come for women to increase productivity in livestock farming by benefiting from the programmes lined up at her Ministry.
She has consequently disclosed that in line with this, Vice President Inonge Wina will next week launch one of the empowerment programmes for farmers in Livestock farming in Mkushi district.
She said livestock farming is very lucrative and less costly in the wake of climate change.
Meanwhile, Minister of Gender Elizabeth Phiri said her Ministry is thrilled by women participation in farming activities.
Ms. Phiri explained that the fight against malnourishment will be won only when women are involved in both Agriculture and Livestock farming.
“ Going forward, women should be conducting monthly exhibition of their agricultural products as the conduct enhances exchange of knowledge and unity among women, “ she said.
On the other hand, Women Farmers and food processors exhibition representative Mercy Taimono hailed the Vice President for having toured the stands at the first ever women agricultural exhibition.
Ms. Taimono explained that women in the country will soon return the lost glory of depending on dried indigenous vegetables that fight different diseases.
She further pointed out that women in the country will in the 2019/2020 agricultural season embrace climate smart Agriculture.
The trio said this today when the Vice President officiated at the Women Farmers and food-processors exhibition held at Mount Makulu Agriculture Research center in Chilanga district.
