Zambia’s first ruling party, the United National Independence Party (UNIP) has paid glowing tribute to First President Kenneth Kaunda.
UNIP is the political party Dr Kaunda helped to form which wrestled power from Britain in 1964 through which he ruled the country for 27 years.
In a congratulatory message to mark Dr Kaunda’s 95th birthday which falls today, April 28, the former ruling party said the first President worked tirelessly to liberate Africa and bring development to Zambia and the African Continent.
In a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka, UNIP Deputy Secretary General, Alfred Banda said Dr Kaunda is a national asset and icon of liberation, peace and development to Zambians, Africa and the world.
Rev Banda said Dr Kaunda is a humble hero who showed love for humanity, human progress, dignity, and social and economic justice.
The UNIP leader said Dr Kaunda practiced what he preached and hoped that people must emulate.
Rev Banda said the former ruling party cherishes Dr Kaunda’s exemplary leadership and sacrifice for Zambians and the people of Africa.
