Heifer International Zambia (HIZ) has distanced itself from unscrupulous people that are swindling farmers of money in Chikonkomene area of Chisamba District purporting that the organization has started an aquaculture and pig project in Central Province
In a press statement made available to ZANIS in Kabwe today, HIZ Communications Officer, Pezo Siabasimbi, said her organization is not implementing any aquaculture, pig and crocodile project in the province.
Ms Siabasimbi said it has emerged that some people are going round collecting money from unsuspecting farmers using HIZ contact details and physical address allegedly for survey of ponds and underground water as a prerequisite for the project to take off.
“From this, background we would like to categorically state that Heifer International Zambia (HIZ) is not implementing any aquaculture, pig and crocodile project in Zambia and later alone in Central Province”, read the statement in part.
She said HIZ would like to distance itself from the criminal activities in which some farmers have been swindled of some substantial amounts of money by unscrupulous people.
She explained that HIZ does not work in isolation but in collaboration with government line ministries, local authorities and traditional leaders adding that it does not collect money from the farmers.
Some unscrupulous people are allegedly cashing in on farmers between K470 and K1, 300 in Chikonkomene area in alleged ponds and survey of the underground water charges.
And Central Province Commissioner of Police, Chola Katanga, has confirmed receiving a report to the effect that a man of Chikonkomene area has been swindled of money in unclear circumstances.
Speaking in a phone interview, Commissioner Katanga said police are investigating the matter but no arrest has been made and promised to furnish ZANIS with details later.
