Government says the upgrading of Kasama General Hospital into a Central Hospital is expected to be completed by December this year.
Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya says the upgrading of the General Hospital into a Central Hospital will reduce on the high number of referral cases in the province.
Dr. Chilufya noted that government has placed priority on taking health care services closer to the people by focusing on improved health care facilities.
He added that the upgrading of the health facility will also minimize the long distances people are subjected to cover in order to access quality health services.
He further disclosed that government has so far spent K2 million towards the upgrading of infrastructure at Kasama General Hospital.
The Minister was speaking in Kasama yesterday when he called on Northern Province Minister Brian Mundubile as part of his official engagement in the province.
And Mr. Mundubile has welcomed the decision by the Ministry of Health to expedite the process of upgrading of hospital.
He said the people of Northern Province have looked forward to having a high level health institution to attend to specialized health cases.
Mr. Mundubile has since assured people in the province that government remains committed to actualizing its promises of bettering their living standards.
