Vice President, Inonge Wina is today expected in Northern Province on a 2 day official visit.
According to a program released by the Northern Provincial Administration, Ms Wina is expected to arrive at Kasama airport today Monday, September 7, at 11:00 hours and pay a courtesy call at Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people.
ZANIS reports that the Vice President will later meet Northern Provincial PF party officials before departing for Chimalilo area to check on relief efforts being given to the people affected by the floods of the 2019/2020 rain season.
The Vice President will on Tuesday, September 8, visit Mumbi Mukulu, Mumbi Mfumu, Chanda Mukulu and Kasonde Chisuna in the morning and later depart for Mansa at about 16:30 hours.
In April this year, Ms Wina visited Northern Province to have an on-the-spot check on the devastating effects of floods caused by torrential rains in the region which left many people homeless and without food.
The heavy rains also left a trail of destruction of public infrastructures in the region.
During that visit, she said the government was extremely concerned with the floods which had wreaked havoc on the crops and public infrastructure in the province, noting that this happened at the time the country was battling with another natural calamity, the outbreak of the coronavirus.
She assured the flood victims that the government was going to provide them with emergency relief packages to enable them pull through the effects and start a new life.
