Acting President Inonge Wina says the Late Former Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe will be remembered as a fearless freedom fighter and a law maker.

Ms. Wina stated that the Late Mr. Munkombwe was also a family man but most importantly a man who served in all governments with passion and ease because he believed that Zambia was greater than an individual.

In her message of sympathy to the bereaved family, the Acting President said Mr. Munkombwe contributed greatly to the agriculture sector for many years especially in the area of livestock production.

Ms. Wina said the nation will sadly miss the Late Mr. Munkombwe whom she said was dedicated to displaying patriotism to the country with enthusiasm and youthful energy.

This is contained in statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka this evening by Permanent Secretary for Administration at the Office of the Vice President, Stephen Mwansa.

Meanwhile, the Acting President Inonge Wina has accorded a state funeral to the Late Former Southern Province Minister and Minister of State in the UNIP government Daniel Munkombwe who died after an illness at Livingstone General Hospital.

Ms. Wina has since declared a one day national mourning in his honour on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 the day of his burial.

On this day, all flags will fly at half-mast and all radio and television stations are expected to play solemn music from 06:00hrs to 18:00hrs.

All activities of entertainment nature should either be postponed or cancelled.

The funeral for the Late Mr. Munkombwe is being held at Kaseba farm in Choma District, Southern Province.
