Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) Director General James Chirwa has called on the farmers in Mbala district to take farming as a business.
Mr Chirwa made a call in Mbala at the weekend during a district co-operative meeting held at Makungo Conference Hall.
He said it is only in Africa where the producer waits for the buyer to fix the price of crops that the farmers cannot achieve maximum profits from their valuable investments.
The DG has encouraged the small scale farmers to involve themselves in growing different crops.
He adds that farming is not only about growing maize hence, the need for the farmers to grow other crops such as cassava which does not need fertilizer.
Meanwhile, Mr Chirwa has since assured the co-operatives that he will look for better market this year provided they put their produce together.
