Western province Minister Richard Kapita has implored companies to consider environmental issues in all their operations as opposed to being profit driven.
Mr. Kapita said Zambia does not only need companies that can create more jobs but those that deal responsibly with the environment for the sake of the present and future generations.
He said a healthy economy coupled with sustainable environment is a precondition for sustainable national development.
Mr. Kapita was speaking in Solwezi today when he addressed workers during this year’s Labour day celebrations under the theme” Building partnerships for Sustainable National Development through decent job creation and social justice.”
And Mr. Kapita said government is eager to ensure that job creation for women, young people and people with disabilities is taken into account by all stakeholders because employment creation is a priority to Zambia’s achievement of the middle income status by 2030.
Speaking at the same event Zambia Federation of Employers representative Cosby Chongo appealed to banks to consider revising the interest rates to enable individual and corporate businessmen and women access investment funds as this will positively contribute to decent jobs being created for the people.
